Tomihiko Morimi is an award winning and highly regarded novelist. Several of his novels have been adapted into animated films, including Penguin Highway and The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl. Both of these have received English language releases. In 2003 he won the 15th Japan Fantasy Novel Award for Taiyou no Tou and in 2006 he was nominated for the Seiun Prize for his novel Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei, which was adapted into a tv anime series in 2010.
Tomihiko Morimi’s novels have long sat at the top of the wish list for many fans of Japanese literature keen to see the works translated.
Morimi’s work has also captured the imagination of prominent animators and directors in Japan, most notably with the recent releases of animated films for The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl and Penguin Highway.
The Night Is Short, Walk on Girl won critical acclaim for it’s animated film adaptation, winning Best Animate Feature at the Ottawa International Film Festival and the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year.
Gkids releases a limited theatrical event in the US in 2018, making it eligible for the 2018 Academy Awards.
Yen Press will be cross promoting the title with Gkids in association with the author’s novel, Penguin Highway.
