Love on the Horizon Vol. 01
A sweet, poignant new BL series about a college student’s crush on his upperclassman and next door neighbor, perfect for fans of My Ultramarine Sky, Number Call, Given, and The White and Blue Between Us!
Art university student Nagi Kitagawa is hopelessly in love with Yuu Yamasaki, his senpai in the folk song club who also happens to be his next door neighbor. Yuu seems to have it all–good looks, a great personality, and he’s also super popular–so Nagi can’t help but think he’d never fall for a shy, innocent country bumpkin like him. One night, after drinking too much at one of their club get-togethers, Nagi helps a drunk Yuu get home safe–but before he can go back to his own apartment, Yuu wraps Nagi in his arms and falls asleep, trapping Nagi in his embrace.
Nagi sneaks out the next morning, careful to not wake Yuu up, and vows to keep the incident a secret. But when Nagi finds himself growing closer and closer to Yuu, his unrequited feelings only grow stronger…but could it be his love isn’t as one-sided as he thinks it is…?
Biographical Notes:
Machi Yamashita made their manga debut in their native Japan with the BL one-shot Love on the Horizon. The series was so popular that they later released a second volume. Love on the Horizon is their first work to be published in English.
Title Notes:
Love on the Horizon is creator Machi Yamashita’s first manga, and their English-language debut, but their art style and storytelling is reminiscent of beloved BL manga creators such as Nagisa Furuya (My Summer of You), Kiyuhiko (The White and Blue Between Us), and Natsuki Kizu (Given), which will no doubt have dedicated BL fans eager to add Machi Yamashita to their collection.
While emotionally resonant and containing the same soft, romantic queer charm as similar “quiet” BL series such as My Summer of You, similar to The White and Blue Between Us by Kiyuhiko, Love on the Horizon goes beyond the familiar modern-day high school setting to offer older teen and adult readers of BL a college romance.
Perfect for older readers who want to see more characters closer to their age in manga.
Originally a one-shot, Love on the Horizon became so popular in its native country of Japan that the series added a second volume to its collection.
What’s more, this love between two college students and next door neighbors who bond over their shared love of folk music will resonate with fans of similar music-focused romance manga, such as Given and Whisper Me a Love Song.
