Wergelder: In Germanic law, the money paid by a murderer or his family to the victim’s family in atonement. A mysterious deal goes down on a remote island known as a red light pleasure district. Biographical Notes:

Born in 1970, Hiroaki Samura became one of the first Japanese artists to become widely popular among American comics readers when his Blade of the Immortal began publication in English in 1997. Uniquely for a manga artist, Samura enjoyed a partial education in classical art before dropping out of college to start drawing Blade.
